Rules
Section I. General
1. During the year the CCCC
will sponsor six regular competitions. Those competitions will be on the
regular meeting nights in February, April, June, August, October, and November.
Each competition night will include a Themed Category and an Open Category and
each category will include an Advanced class and a Novice class.
2. Only dues paying members in
good standing can enter club photo contests.
3. Competitions will be prints
only unless otherwise specified. All entries must have been photographed
by the entrant and must satisfy the definition of photograph (See Definitions
below). Only those photographs taken by the member themselves within the
24 month period prior to the competition will be eligible.
4. All entries must be
submitted prior to the start of the competition for the Class in which it is
being entered and must not, in the opinion of the Competition Committee,
interfere with the process of preparing a competition class for judging.
Entrants should strive to submit their entries prior to the start of the
meeting.
5. Each entrant may submit up
to 2 images for each category.
6. The minimum print
size is 5x7 or any equivalent combination. Maximum print size will be
16x20.
7. Prints must be mounted
and/or matted for ease of handling. Mounts or mattes may not exceed 16x20. The
mounting need not be permanent but must be on some firm surface such as foam
core board, matte board, or presentation board.
8. Prints should not be framed
or under glass or Plexiglas or inside plastic bags or wrappers as these take
away from the print itself and make judging more difficult.
9. Titles must be included
with each image along with the name of the photographer. This information will
be affixed to the back of the mounting board at the top so that a person
reading it from behind will be holding the image in the correct orientation.
Club provided “Post-it” style labels are preferred but not required as long as
the information is on the print.
10. Any image not meeting
these basic requirements will not be eligible for judging in the contest
11. During the judging, audience
members must not make comments to the judge concerning the images being
displayed. Any questions may be brought to the attention of the
Competition Committee who, at their discretion, may bring the question to the
attention of the judge. The decisions of the judge and Competition
Committee shall be final.
12. In each Class the following awards
will be made:
(1) Three or less entries; first place only.
(2) Four entries; first and second place only.
(3) Five entries; first, second, and third place.
(4) Six entries; first, second, and third place and one honorable
mention.
(5) Seven or more entries; first, second, and third place and two
honorable mentions.
(6) No awards will be shared.
(7) Judges must make all awards specified by these rules.
13. All prints winning 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place ribbons will be
eligible to enter the Print of the Year competition.
14. Prints winning 1st, 2nd,
or 3rd place may not be entered in any future competition (not including Print
of the Year). No print may be entered in a competition more than one time
during a calendar year.
Section II. Definitions
1. Photograph
Photographs shall include images obtained using a light capturing
process. The capture may be done by a film or digital camera; or by
scanners and similar light-capturing devices.
2. Enhanced Prints
The club makes no distinction between images that have been enhanced using
computer software and those that have not been enhanced.
4. Novice/Advanced Classes
(1) Novice
class is for entrants who are inexperienced in photography and/or new to
competing in photography competitions.
(2) Advanced class is for the more experienced exhibitors. Any member may
elect to exhibit in the Advanced Class. Upon doing so the member shall be
permanently ineligible to compete in the Novice Class.
(3) Automatic promotion from Novice to Advanced class will be based on a point system. Points will be given to winners of each competition and those who get enough points to be in the top 15% each year will be promoted to Advanced class the next year. The points will be awarded as follows:

Section III. Print of the Year
All entries from the
competitions receiving first, second or third place awards in each of our regular competitions are eligible to be judged for the Print of the
Year. There will be an award for Advanced Print of the Year, and one for
Novice Print of the Year. From those a single best “Print of the Year” will be chosen.
Rules for monthly competitions apply.
Section IV. Questions of Eligibility
and Disqualification
It shall be the
responsibility of the entrant to bring all doubtful or questionable entries to
the attention of the Competition Committee before a competition begins.
Failure to provide such advance notice of a questionable entry before a meeting
may, at the option of the Committee, result in disqualification. The
decision of the Committee on a specific entry shall be final unless he/she
chooses to present the issue to the membership prior to the start of the
competition, in which case a voice vote of members present shall be used to decide
the issue. A decision by the Committee will be final for the meeting date
on which it is rendered but the decision may be appealed, with prior notice, at
any subsequent board or general membership meeting.
If
a disqualification is determined prior to the judge’s award for that class, the
image will be removed from consideration. The Competition Committee will
inform the judge of any changes that result to the number of awards to be
given. If the disqualification is determined after a class competition
has been completed, the Committee will remove any awards that may have been
awarded for that image, however all other ribbons and points shall remain as
awarded by the judge. If a Novice inadvertently enters a slide or print
in an advanced competition, the novice can request that the image be eliminated
or any awards refused and still preserve his/her Novice status.
Otherwise, the entrant will be placed in the Advanced class.
